Worst Web-elf ever
Well. Probably. I guess I rate a little higher over those who have the domain name yet utterly fail to produce a site.
I’m hoping to revamp singthesorrow.co.uk at some point, but now that I have a proper job and a pension and all that rather than being a student… time is very hard to come by.
However, I’m still here. If anyone has any requests for anything in particular I’m up for doing those – just let me know with a comment on an entry here.
AbsolutePunk.net Interview with Davey
AFI/Blaqk Audio (Davey Havok) – 08.08.07 by Steve Henderson
I recently had the opportunity to talk on the phone with one of modern rock’s most recognizable, influential, and admired frontmen – AFI’s Davey Havok. I got to pick his brain about his new Blaqk Audio project, and what the new venture means to fans and strangers alike, among other things. Here is what he had to say.
For the record, can you state your name and what you do in your respective bands?
Davey: I am Davey Havok, currently of Blaqk Audio and historically of AFI. I sing for both groups.
Can you give a history of how the Blaqk Audio project came about? How long has it been in the works?
Davey: Basically, Jade and I have been electronic music fans for most of our lives – since we were really young. And around 2002 or 2001, we started to discuss creating Blaqk Audio for our love of that genre, and Jade started programming. That’s when the band actually began. We demoed some songs in between then and now, only one of which made the CexCells record. Well, most of CexCells then was recorded in the past year.
In general, what sort of vision do you have for the project in terms of longevity and frequency of issuing albums? Is this just a one-off or is it something you want to do as a creative outlet for a long time?
Davey: It’s definitely something we want to stick with, and something that we really enjoy a lot. We don’t really see it as a one-off – I know Jade has been working on Blaqk Audio material since we recorded CexCells. We have actually already written one new song. Our hope is to continue this as long as possible. We’d like to be able to flip-flop back and forth between the two bands and maybe continue that pattern of maybe releasing an AFI record, followed by a Blaqk Audio record. It is very work intensive in that doing it this way in that every minute we have off the road with the rock band is spent working on the dance band. And that is how we did Blaqk Audio. For now, it is working really well – we love it so much that it comes pretty natural.
CexCells!
Blaqk Audio’s first album gets released in the UK on 27th August and the cheapest I’ve found it online is at HMV where is can be purchased for the princely sum of £8.99 including shipping.
I know where I’m getting my copy. 😀
Blaqk Audio myspace!
There’s now an official Blaqk Audio MySpace set up.
More Blaqk Audio news
From Jade’s blog:
So I must apologize for my tardiness (again), but I have been bizzybizzy.
Mainly I’ve been dividing my time between working on my biceps by benchpressing Ferraris filled with supermodels and teaching the homeless to read.
All the rest of my hours have been spent slaving on Blaqk Audio. We’re entering the studio in a matter of days to record vocals. We’re very excited.
I’ll be posting a tracklisting and an album title when it’s finalized.
We also have a website, blaqkaudio.com, which will be undergoing a major transformation very soon.
If I have any time I’m going to try to put together a couple of simple t-shirt designs too.
In the meantime I thought I’d post lyrics to one of the songs, just so you know I’m not lying about us finally putting out this album.Black-Ink Style
So she found him in a sprawl, collapsed and glowing pale
on the ground. His hair spread like a melting angel
like a fire crawling across the floor.
In this moment, in this still inchoate
she loves him.
In this moment, in this light she loves him like no one has.
He held onto elegance easily.
She’d never seen him this way.
She holds on to this picture lit perfectly
and she holds the dust forever.
So he finds her in a sprawl, woven deep in memories revisited and reworked.
The scars get covered up with cherry blossoms that never felt
as soft as this
He held onto elegance easily.
She’d never seen him this way.
She Holds on to this picture lit perfectly
and she holds the dust forever.
Freeze the frame right here he found the perfect pose.
It comes to him naturally.
Freeze the frame right there he found the perfect pose
It came to him naturally.
Surely you must remember him?
Blaqk Audio
Looks like there’ll be some Blaqk Audio stuff coming over the horizon.
From Jade’s blog:
“In other news, I’ve spent the last couple of months on the road working on Blaqk Audio in all my spare moments and we’re finally going to record next month.(!) Davey and I are tres excited to finally get in the studio and finish this album. I know we’ve been talking about it for 3 years but now we finally have time to make it happen. We’ve even decided on an album title, but, just in case we randomly change our minds and call it something else, I won’t say what it is.”
